What you need to know before attending this year’s AGA

Dear Red River Métis Citizens, Registration is now open for the Manitoba Métis Federation’s Annual General Assembly (AGA) on October 18-20, 2024. As your National Government of the Red River Métis works hard to get ready for this year’s AGA, we want to make sure all of our Citizens are prepared to participate in our rich democratic traditions.

Citizens who have been contacted by their Local and registered as Registered Delegates are not required to repeat the process through the website. If you have not been registered by your Local, you can register as a General Delegate at mmfaga.ca

In addition to Registered Delegates, Regions select 3 Elder Delegates to attend AGA on behalf of their Region. Red River Métis Elders provide wisdom, prayer, pass on traditions to the next generation of Red River Métis Citizens, and help ensure our history and values are considered when making decisions within our communities and our government. Elders who have been selected by the Region have access to services throughout the AGA weekend, including the use of the Elders’ Lounge. These services are reserved to Elder Delegates, and we ask that this be respected throughout the weekend. Those who are not registered as an Elder Delegate by the Region but still require the assistance/ services of the Elders Lounge should contact their Regional Coordinator when registering for AGA to be accommodated.

Finally, this year we have created a seating system for AGA based on the seven Regions. This system has been created to encourage healthy discourse and ensure the voices of all seven Regions are represented equally in our democratic process. All Local representatives must be seated on the main floor, and all general and walk-in delegates will be accommodated with seating on the lower level. Citizens will be asked to find seating in their Region’s designated sections in the main hall. If unable to find seating in the main hall, we encourage Citizens to head to our secondary seating location in the lower level of the Assiniboia Downs.
